Traditional Dances courses

The Traditional Dances Courses of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece began in 2001, as this activity has been requested by many members of the organisation. Dance is a powerful tool to strengthen both the socialisation and the perception of physical expression and posture of blind and partially sighted people.

From 2001 until 2004, the Dance Group of the Lighthouse for the Blind held three major events in Athens College (07.04.2003), the Opera (06.12.2003) and events "Together for Halandri (05.06.2004). These performances were very successful and the revenues covered the expenses of the Gym of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece.

In 2004, due to financial and other difficulties encountered, the regular functioning of the group was stopped, but in 2011 the team made one last performance in Katrakeio Theatre in Nikaia.

In November 2013 after request by members of the organisation, a new group was formed and has already participated in events for the City of Athens Friendship Clubs in Agios Andreas (21.09.2014), in an event held by the "Guide Dogs Centre of Greece" in the Day of White Cane in Technopolis of Athens (15.10.2014), in the Municipality of Rafina for a National Anniversary (28.10.2014), in the High School of Hellenes in Peania (31.01.2015) and in the 2nd Panhellenic Dance Festival for People with Disabilities, held by the "Dryades on Board" organisation in Karditsa on 23rd and 24th of May 2015.

Due to the success of the Dance group, a second group started in October 2014. The teams consist of 13 and 17 participants respectively and they are the only dance teams for visually impaired people
