An introduction to visual prosthesis devices to restore sight to the blind

 

On Monday 16, 2018, there was a presentation made at the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, by Dr John S. Pezaris, Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and his associate, Mrs Vassiliki Karadima, with the title: “An introduction to visual prosthesis devices to restore sight to the blind”.

The presentation was attended with high interest by dozens of visually impaired and sighted people, as well as the President of the Board of Directors, Mr Emmanuel Mpassias, the Vice President, Mrs Georgia Roukoutaki and the Members, Mr Christos Koromilas, Mr Christos Lekkas and Mrs Maria Tzevelekou.

There was a short presentation of the current state of the art in devices that provide vision restoration for people who have gone blind, as well as the so far outcome of  Dr. Pezaris' research into developing a thalamic implant. The audience was also informed about the possibility of their participating in discussion groups relatively to the causes of the research, so as to help to shape the future of vision restoration.

There was a positive feedback by the attendants, further to the common belief for the need for researches, for the advancement of science and technology for the benefit of humanity.
